Brief Introduction: Chianda community development group is a registered self-help group constructing Chianda Community and Women’s hospital in partnership with Impact Kenya Initiative. Chianda community is in Rarieda constituency, Siaya county, in Western Kenya at the shores of Lake Victoria. It has a static population of 200,000 and transit population of about 4000-5000 daily. Health care is in-accessible and patients walk long distances of about 15-25 miles for the services. Indeed, in the public sector, there is only one dispensary with a nurse (NO MEDICAL DOCTOR), serving the community and cannot handle serious and acute diseases and screening for Non Communicable Diseases. It is a community with a high burden of communicable, non-communicable diseases and mental illnesses and the elderly population are poor health care and mental/psychosocial services. This has led to high maternal and infant mortality rates, and overall poor health service delivery.
The Team is led by Dr. Otedo Amos-MD, Technical advisor health, www.otedoamos.com
